Chan Kwok On.

Shroff and clerk in the Supreme Court Registry.

I remember the cheque for $213.93 in the Hoshiarpur case: it

went to the Registrar and was passed by him to me I chopped it

with the R.3.C. chop on the back and returned it to him for en-

-dorsement; he returned it to me: I personally handed it to Alim

Khan to buy a loney Order in favour of the Deputy Commissioner for India. This was the usual parotice in the remission of money

to India or elsewhere: it was the custom: I did not see what

happened to it. I presumed he would deal with it all right.

Gross-examined by Mr. A. Khan.

I did not think it was my duty to get the oney Order myself

or see to the transmission. I also handed you cheques for payments

of Court fees and Probate duty on behalf of the Official

Administrator.

I know you received fees in cash in Companies' matters be-

-cause you have often handed them to me: in all matters in the

office.

I knew you received cash in poor Probate matters in advance

which was not to be handed to me at all and with the payment of

which I had nothing to do: I saw you take it sometimes,

(Sd.) Chan Kwok On.

Mr. Dixon (resumed).

Writing is Mahomed Akbar's (Exhibit K) and for I writing is

* Khawas Khan (Exhibit J). I is typed: H I don't know: (It is in

Mr. A. Khan's writing: he now admits it).

Cross-examined by Mr. Alim Khan.

Mahomed Akbar was on the day of H the only clerk attending

to the Indian Money Order business in Hongkong.

Khawas Koan is always at Kowloon.

Akbar is a trusted clerk: the issuing clerk would probably

not handle the money at all personally: the shroff would not

handle
